The Bued River and Balili WQMA convened for the 1st quarter Governing Board Meeting at The Plaza Lodge, Brgy. South Drive, Baguio City on February 2, 2021. EMB-CAR Regional Director Ma. Victoria Abrera said that we have the right direction for the year despite the pandemic.

The following were the agenda that was discussed during the meeting:

Review and approval of the minutes of the 4th quarter Governing Board meeting.

Matters Arising which include Updates on the Anti-Illegal Small Scale Mining Operations at  LGU Itogon and Presentation of the Annual Bued River System WQMA Monitoring Results and Presentation of the Accomplishments of LGUs Baguio City, Tuba and Itogon in the Bued River System WQMA.

Starting the new year with good news at hand, the monitoring results for the physico-chemico data have dramatically improved for CY 2020. The 2021 Action Plan was thereafter approved by the Governing Board members present with a total budget of Php 500,000. For this year, among the activities identified were additional skills training on coffee entrepreneurship to be spearheaded by the DTI CAR. Other continuing research projects which will be headed by the WWRRDEC include “Ecopark Development within the Bued River Watershed” and “Ornamental Bamboo for Riverbank Rehabilitation and Establishment of Mini Bambusetum for Genebank Conservation along the Bued river”. Both research studies will assess the impact of slated activities and the conservation capacity of bamboos for the span of 5 years. The Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for La Trinidad and Eco Park for Balili River were also discussed.

The Governing Board Meeting were well attended and NGAs committed to help at achieving the goals of the WQMAs for the year. Mayor on sight was La Trinidad Mayor Romeo K. Salda who happily discussed efforts and targets of its municipality for the Balili River improvement.
