The Environmental Management Bureau – CAR joined in the cleanup activities organized by the DENR – CAR at Gibraltar Creek, Baguio City on September 30, 2021. A total of 19 volunteers participated in the activity due to restrictions in mobility in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic. The said activity is in support to the celebration of International Coastal Cleanup with this year’s theme “Understand and Beat Marine Pollution”.
A total of 13 sacks which is equivalent to approximately 175 kilograms of residual wastes were removed in the adopted waterways. These wastes oftentimes find its way to the waterbody which hampers the movement or flow of the water. The collected solid wastes were hauled by the Baguio City General Services Office after the activity.
The said activity also enjoined the participation of the barangay officials and communities from Brgy. Gibraltar and Brgy. Lualhati. In 2012, the Sagudin and Gibraltar Creek were adopted by the DENR – CAR and its attached bureaus. However, since 2019, SM City Baguio, as well as, Brgy. Lualhati has been added to the pool of adopters in the said creeks. The said creek measures approximately 1.6 kilometers. DENR-CAR, CENRO Baguio and EMB-CAR together with SM City Baguio renewed their Memorandum of Agreement last June 2021.
