The once open dump in the past and then turned into a Recycling Integrated System (RIS) and still failed, NOW an Ecological Park and a pride of Baguio City, the Cordillera and the whole country. In a joint visit of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong and EMB DENR-CAR Regional Director Ma. Victoria V. Abrera on March 10, 2021, they attested an aesthetic ecopark.

To recall, the area is where the thrash slide occurred in 2011 and reportedly buried bodies similar to that of Payatas Dumpsite in Quezon City, hence called as Payatas II.

Among others, converting into an ecopark out of the dumpsite is one of the requirements in the writ of kalikasan and continuing mandamus. Through the continuing efforts of the Baguio City Mayor Magalong, City’s SWM Office and the City Environment and Parks Management Office, the Impossible Mission became a reality! EMB-CAR, for the past 10 years has been consistently monitoring the site and been previously issuing Notice of Violations (NOVs) and Cease and Desist Orders (CDOs).

EMB-CAR is enjoining the City in the promotion of the area as one of the ecological tourist destinations in Baguio City and is proud to be part of its realization as an Ecological Park that the residents of Baguio can be proud of.

If we believe we CAN, then we can really DO it and Baguio City, DID IT!
