The Environmental Management Bureau through the Gender and Development Unit and Safety and Health Officers (SHO) conducted Occupational Safety & Health on October 7, 2022. Attended by EMB – CAR employees via Microsoft Teams and face-to-face mode, resource speakers invited were Ms. Mariam Vanessa A. Meneses, Mr. Vergo E. Lucas and Mr. Carlo B. Palima.

Ms. Mariam Vanessa Meneses of PEZA-BCEZ outlined Republic Act No. 11058 or an “An Act Strengthening Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Standards and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof” which aims to protect the health and safety of workers in the country. She also introduced the basic principles of HIRAC (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Control). Participants were also tasked to determine the risk associated with the health and safety hazards and the applicable controls such as Elimination, Substitution, Engineering Control, Administrative Control, and the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Other legal basis includes CSC-DOH-DOLE Joint Memorandum Circular No. 1 series of 2020: Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Standards for the Public Sector. The OSH Standards for the Public Sector is aimed at protecting all government employees from the dangers of injury, sickness or death in the workplace through the adoption of safe and healthy working conditions to ensure the preservation of human lives and resources and prevent loss/damage of properties.

Topics on fire hazards and fire suppression demonstration was undertaken with Mr. Vergo E. Lucas and Mr. Carlo B. Palima as resource persons.

Meanwhile, Engr. Eldelinita D. Andres (Division Chief, Finance and Administrative Division) delivered her closing remarks and congratulated all the participants for their cooperation and commended the resource speakers for sharing their expertise to the participants.
