The International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is celebrated every September 16 in commemoration of the signing of the Montreal Protocol. This year’s theme is pegged with, “Montreal Protocol – Keepin Us, Our Food and Vaccines Cool”. Part of the activities for the month includes the survey of establishments which are Retailers and Distributors and Service Providers of equipment utilizing Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) in the City of Baguio and La Trinidad, Benguet. On September 23-24, 2021, the Environmental Management Bureau – CAR through the Chemical and Hazardous Wastes Management and Permitting Section carried out a two – day survey of firms providing refrigeration and air conditioning services in Benguet.
This is in consonance with the continuing goal of the department to enhance the compliance of such establishments with environmental laws on the regulation of the use and distribution of ODS in the market. The activity aims to generate a database on ODS Retailers, resellers and distributors and service providers for equipment using ODS in preparation to their registration which is also anchored with the provisions of EMB MC 2021-11 (Registration of Service Providers of Ozone-Depleting Substance (ODS)-Using Equipment).
“The Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment show us that by acting together, anything is possible. So let us act now to slow climate change, feed the world’s hungry and protect the planet that we all depend on.”- António Guterres
