The DENR-CAR through the Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group (RSCIG) and EMB-CAR though the Solid Waste Management Section launched the Regional Solid Waste Management Advocacy Campaigns in 8 elementary and high schools in the municipalities of Hingyon, Mayoyao, and Aguinaldo on September 27-29, 2022.

Pinas: The Basura Buster (PBB), who is the face of the DENR’s Solid Waste Management Advocacy Campaign was introduced to students and teachers. This mascot is an icon for the solid waste management program for the DENR and is worth stanning for being an inspiration of the youth to advocate for an ecological solid waste management in the Cordillera.

Ms. Elizabeth Antolin, Chief of DENR-CAR RSCIG, reminded everyone on the proper solid waste management. The launching of the Basura Buster mascot, according to her, should remind the public of their responsibilities to take care of the environment because we have only one Earth.

The Talakayan sa Paaralan is an initiative by the DENR-CAR which aims to involve teachers and learners to seriously partake on environmental discussions. After series of environmental lecture, the participants were invited to raise issues and concerns to be clarified by the concerned staff. Among the topics discussed were RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, Introduction to Geological Hazard, and Process on School Titling followed by a distribution of IEC materials.

Present during the activities were Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Ernesto Aton, Community Environmental and Natural Resources (CENR) Officer Manuel Magkachi and CENR Officer John Langbis, Atty. Annivest Hangdaan, Legal Officer of DepEd-Ifugao, Public Schools District Supervisors Vicente Buyucan of Hingyon, Ms. Geraldine Gawi of Mayoyao, and Ms. Evangeline Dulnuan of Aguinaldo, respectively.
