Engr. Ricardo P. Dang-iw, Chief of the Solid Waste Management Section, led the monitoring of the operation of CY 2019 EMB-funded MRF of LGU Bokod and CY 2018 EMB-funded MRF of LGU Kabayan. The financial assistance given to said LGUs were intended for the establishment of solid waste diversion mechanisms for the implementation of RA 9003, otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

Likewise, the team inspected the operation of the municipal RCAs in compliance with the said Act. It was concluded, however, that the volume of stored wastes are nearing maximum capacity which needs immediate hauling to a nearest sanitary landfill. Hence, during the monitoring, it was discussed to each LGU representative the necessity for them to identify at least three (3) sites for geological assessment for a possible construction of a sanitary landfill. Under RA 9003, a sanitary landfill is the waste disposal site designed, constructed, operated and maintained in a manner that exerts engineering control over significant potential environmental impacts arising from the development and operation of the facility.
