In celebration of the National Cleanup Month and the 9th Balili River Day, a total of 568 sacks were collected from the separate stretches of the Balili River on September 16, 2022. The following data were consolidated by the focal persons from the Ambient Monitoring Section of EMB-CAR: Sablan Benguet collected 20 sacks, La Trinidad Benguet filled 194 sacks while Baguio City was able to haul 354 sacks.

The synchronized cleanup drive was spearheaded by the three Local Government Units (LGUs) namely Sablan, Benguet; La Trinidad, Benguet and Baguio City in coordination with the Environmental Management Bureau – Cordillera in their respective areas of responsibility. The three LGUs are active members of the Balili river System WQMA and have been very cooperative in cleaning up the waterway.

RD Ma. Victoria V. Abrera, together with Baguio City Councilors, Honorable Lourdes Tabanda, Honorable Mylene Yaranon and City and Environment and Parks Management Officer Atty. Rhenan Diwas kicked off the cleanup drive at Teacher’s Camp, Baguio City.

Meanwhile, Honorable Romeo Salda of La Trinidad, Benguet and Honorable Alfredo Dacumos of Sablan, Benguet also graced the Balili River Day celebration in their respective municipality.

The activity brings together National Government Agencies, partners from the private sector, Non-Government Organizations, local government officials, students and SK Federation units to clean the waterways from plastics and debris that may clog the waterbodies. Information Education Campaign Materials were also distributed to the participating barangays during the event.
